The practical details matter: what guests need, what is free, how payments work and what happens when someone wants help. Here are straightforward answers before you commit to a new ordering setup.
What does scan to order mean?
A guest scans a restaurant QR code with their phone camera, opens a digital menu in the browser, selects items and sends an order. Unlike a code that only opens a PDF, the menu includes an ordering flow. The restaurant decides which services and payment methods to enable.
How is scan to order different from scan to pay?
Ordering starts the food request; payment settles the bill. You can offer table ordering without requiring an online card payment. If you enable supported online payments, guests can pay through the configured checkout. A successful payment and an accepted food order are separate steps in your restaurant workflow.
Is scan to order free with MenuForma?
You can start with the Free Forever plan for one restaurant, including a QR code menu and table ordering. It is not a time-limited trial, and no credit card is needed to register. Regular is required for features such as multilingual menus, delivery and takeaway ordering, and online payments. Check the pricing page for current plan details.
Do customers need an app or an account?
No app download is needed to open the menu: guests use their phone camera and browser. MenuForma also supports guest checkout. The contact details requested depend on the service and your settings; for example, a delivery order may need an address. Avoid requesting information that your team does not need to fulfil the order.
Can I use scan to order for pickup and delivery?
Yes, pickup and delivery ordering are available on Regular. You configure the relevant service, opening hours, customer fields and delivery rules. Share its link or QR code so customers open the right flow. Test the pickup journey and check your delivery area before advertising either service.
What happens if a guest cannot scan the code?
Keep a short menu link nearby and offer a paper menu or staff assistance. A working internet connection is needed to open and submit online orders. Guests with a flat battery, limited connectivity or a preference for personal service should still have a practical way to order. The QR option does not have to be compulsory.
Can guests pay online, and are there extra fees?
Online payments require Regular and a supported, fully configured Stripe connection. MenuForma lists a 0.6% platform transaction fee for Stripe payments, and Stripe processing fees may also apply. Available methods depend on your account and region. Review those charges before enabling payments; starting a free menu does not make card processing free.
Will scan to order work with my existing POS or printer?
MenuForma can be used through its dashboard without replacing your POS. Integration and printing support depend on the specific system and configuration. Check the integrations and Print Agent documentation for your setup, and test a ticket before service. Do not assume every POS, fiscal invoicing system or printer is automatically compatible.
Can I update prices and show food allergy information?
Yes. You can edit menu content and add the supported allergen labels to dishes. MenuForma includes the 14 EU allergen categories, but your restaurant remains responsible for accurate ingredients, cross-contact advice and local requirements. Review imported or translated content; the software does not independently verify whether a dish is safe for a guest.
Why choose MenuForma instead of a basic QR generator?
A basic generator links a code to a destination. MenuForma helps you create and maintain the destination itself: an editable menu with ordering, restaurant settings and an order dashboard. You can begin free, try the live menu examples below and upgrade only when additional capabilities fit your operation. There is no need to rebuild your menu just to change a price.
