eMenu: A Restaurant Menu You Can Manage

An eMenu is a living part of your restaurant, not a PDF that becomes old when prices or dishes change. Your eMenu keeps the content and service style in your team's control.

More than a code pointing to a file

Make your eMenu manageable between services

A static PDF is awkward when a special ends, an ingredient runs out or a price needs correction. An eMenu gives content a stable home: organize categories, update a dish, and let the same QR code lead to the latest version.

Technology does not have to take over hospitality. Keep printed copies, let guests ask a server, and use your eMenu alongside the room. People remain available for advice and allergies.

Start from what you have, then review it properly

How to publish your eMenu in four practical steps

Build a reliable eMenu first, test it with staff, then add a layer only when it solves a genuine need.

1

Bring in the menu you already use

Start with a PDF, menu photo, or website link instead of retyping from a blank page. An AI-assisted import can give you a draft, but it is not a publishing decision: review every dish name, price, option, availability and allergen detail before your eMenu goes live.

2

Make the choice easy to read

Group starters, mains, drinks, desserts and specials into useful categories. Add descriptions, selected photos and the information guests need to decide on a phone. A tidy eMenu helps a diner scan the essentials without turning a small screen into a miniature paper sheet.

3

Publish one address guests can use

Test the public page on a phone, then print its QR code and share the same link on your website, social posts, booking messages or delivery profile. The eMenu stays at that address, so a routine update does not mean replacing every table card.

4

Choose ordering only when it fits

You can use the page for browsing first and keep orders with your team. When your staff, table process and guest instructions are ready, enable table ordering and test the complete journey. Delivery and pickup are Regular services that need their own practical setup.

Useful information, without a forced service style

What a well-run eMenu can help you manage

The value is not the QR square itself. Your eMenu brings current information to a small screen while the restaurant keeps responsibility for accuracy and personal service.

Content that can move with service

An eMenu is a manageable page, not a frozen attachment. Edit a price, hide a sold-out dish, introduce a seasonal special or clarify a description in the dashboard, then check the public result before the next guest sees it.

Categories before clutter

Clear sections, concise item details and intentional photos give guests a faster route through the choice. Your eMenu can hold more useful context than a table sign while still letting a server explain the dish, make a recommendation or answer a question.

Availability you can communicate

When a dish is unavailable, update its status rather than hoping a guest sees an old printout. The eMenu helps make the current offer easier to find; your team still decides what can be served and should confirm anything important in person.

Allergen information with human responsibility

You can record the 14 EU allergen categories on dishes. The restaurant remains responsible for ingredients, recipe changes, cross-contact information, accuracy and local obligations. An eMenu does not certify compliance or decide whether a dish is suitable for one guest.

A phone-friendly route, without an app

Guests scan a QR code or open a shared link in a compatible browser; there is no app download just to browse. Keep paper menus and personal help available too, because a useful eMenu should add a route to service rather than remove other routes.

Languages and services at the right stage

Free Forever covers one restaurant, one primary menu language, QR menu display and table ordering. Regular adds multiple languages, delivery and pickup ordering, plus multiple restaurants. Choose the layer that matches how you actually operate today.

Pick the format that supports your real workflow

Paper, PDF and an editable eMenu each have a place

Printed menu

Reliable in the room

It needs no signal, feels familiar and remains important for accessibility. It needs a new print run when details change, so it works well beside an eMenu.

PDF behind a QR code

A file to distribute

It can be fast, but stays a document. Revisions mean another version, and mobile reading depends on its layout. A code alone does not create an eMenu with availability controls.

MenuForma

A page you can tend

An eMenu makes a stable link useful day to day. Start with browsing, then enable an order journey when your restaurant is ready to support it.

Straight answers before you put a code on the table

eMenu questions, answered

These eMenu details cover careful importing, guest support, service choices and what remains the restaurant's responsibility.

What is an eMenu?

An eMenu is a restaurant menu published as a web page guests can open with a QR code or link. Instead of sending them to a static file, it gives your team a place to organize categories, dishes, prices, descriptions, photos and availability, then maintain those details as service changes.

How is an eMenu different from a PDF or a QR code generator?

A PDF is a document and a QR generator only creates a code. An eMenu connects the code to editable menu content. You can revise the page at the same link, structure the menu for mobile reading, and decide later whether browsing should remain read-only or include ordering.

Do guests need an app to use it?

No. Guests can scan the QR code with a compatible phone and open the eMenu in their browser, or follow the shared link. They need a usable device and a working internet connection. Keep a printed menu and staff assistance for guests who prefer them or cannot connect.

Can AI import my existing menu for me?

AI-assisted import can turn a PDF, image or web link into a useful starting draft. It can miss or misread details, so your restaurant must proofread names, descriptions, prices, options, allergens and availability before publishing. Treat the import as preparation, not approval.

Can I update prices or a sold-out item after printing the QR code?

Yes. Save the change in your dashboard and the eMenu can continue using the same public link and QR code. Open it on a real phone before service to confirm the correct menu appears. Reprint only when you want to change the physical sign or the code itself.

Can the eMenu show photos, categories and allergen details?

Yes. Use categories to make the menu easier to browse, add photos where they genuinely help, and record the supported 14 EU allergen categories. The restaurant is responsible for ingredients, cross-contact, recipe changes, accurate labels and local requirements; the platform does not provide automatic compliance.

When should I enable ordering?

Enable ordering after the browse-only page is accurate and your team has agreed how table codes, incoming orders and guest questions will be handled. An eMenu can stay read-only. Table ordering is included with Free Forever; delivery and pickup require Regular and should be tested before you advertise them.

Can tourists read the menu in another language?

Regular supports multiple menu languages, which can make an eMenu more comfortable for visitors. Review every translation, dish name, ingredient description and allergen note before it is public. A translated screen is helpful, but staff should still be available for personal dietary questions.

What does it cost, and what about online payment fees?

Free Forever includes one restaurant, one primary language, QR menu display and table ordering. Regular adds multiple languages, delivery, pickup and multiple restaurants. For configured Stripe online payments, MenuForma charges a 0.6% platform fee per transaction and Stripe processing fees also apply; check current plan and Stripe terms before enabling checkout.

What happens if a guest has no internet or prefers paper?

An eMenu needs an internet connection to open, so it is not a replacement for every situation. Keep printed menus, a staff-led ordering path and a clear way to help guests with a low battery, limited signal, accessibility needs or a simple preference for human service.
